Sam Bailey takes the stage for brand-new theatre show
It is with great excitement that we can announce that our very own superstar Sam Bailey, has secured yet another fabulous role on stage!
Fans of Sam will remember, her successful stint in the iconic theatre production of Chicago, where she stepped into the shoes of the corrupt matron, Mama Morton and wowed audiences and critics alike.
Now, a year on, and after a busy few months travelling on her successful Sing My Heart Out tour, Sam has revealed she will once again take centre stage for what is sure to be a hilarious comedy production; Fat Friends: The Musical.
The musical is based on the award-winning ITV drama Fat Friends which entertained the nation for five years from 2000 -2005. Following the same premise as the TV show, the stage production will document the lives of a group of friends as they struggle with overcoming the hurdles of weight loss.
Sam will be playing the role of Betty and will be joined by some other familiar faces including English actress and singer Jodie Prenger who is best-known as the winner of BBC’s I’d Do Anything talent show.
The production is in good hands thanks to the talented Kay Mellor who wrote the original hit TV show. Nicholas Lloyd Webber, the son of theatre supremo Andrew, is also on board as the brains behind the music.
Sam said of her involvement Sam said, “I’m absolutely delighted to have been cast as Betty in Fat Friends – The Musical. I loved the show when it was on ITV and I feel so honoured to be working with such a talented group of people. I know I am going to learn so much from Kay and Nicholas and I can’t wait to start rehearsals.”
The show kicks off in November 2017 in Leeds before travelling around the country stopping off at venues such as the Churchill Theatre in Bromley, Newcastle Theatre Royal, the Mayflower Theatre in Southampton, Norwich Theatre Royal, Edinburgh Playhouse, the Millennium Centre in Cardiff and Blackpool's Winter Gardens. With the show not closing until June 2018, Sam certainly has a busy, but exciting year ahead of her!
